We are over the moon here at PRG with the news that the University of Michigan will name a new residence hall after long-time Vice President for Student Life, and now PRG Senior Advisor, Royster Harper. The honor recognizes Royster’s incredible contributions to student life at Michigan, including her deep commitment to inclusivity and well-being.
We agree wholeheartedly with the description of Royster’s impact that U-M’s Executive Vice President Geoff Chatas and Vice President for Student Life Martino Harmon wrote when recommending the naming to the Board of Regents: “She truly set the standard for student life leaders in higher education.”

10/12/23 Harper Hall groundbreaking
Harper Hall will be the first building on the University of Michigan campus named after a Black woman. Community members gathered for a meaningful groundbreaking ceremony last week to celebrate, including PRG colleagues Cynthia Wilbanks and Diane Brown.
No honor or recognition was ever more well deserved. We learn from Royster’s empathic leadership and deep wisdom every day.
Just fabulous photos and report of a glorious event! Thank you for passing along our collective joy.
Royster so deserves this recognition. She has been a wonderful leader for student development. She was also an outstanding colleague. I miss working with her but will treasure our 16 years together. Jerry May
